Sales Engineer

General Responsibility

To organize and execute sales strategies, initiate and maintain contact with existing and potential customers, identify their needs, promote program capture in accordance with corporate standards and contribute to the business unit’s financial targets with a focus on the Commercial Vehicle Trailer Market.


Duties and Standards


  • Manage assigned territory and accounts
  • Negotiate price, productivity, and retention of current business
  • Service customer requirements
  • Develop quotes and new businesses opportunities
  • Keep customer updated on new product and technical capabilities developed by Maxion Wheels 


  • Develop new opportunities
    • Develop new products or business opportunities with different groups within the assigned accounts
    • Find and develop potential new customers within the Commercial Vehicle Space
  • Facilitate customer relationship management both within Maxion Wheels, and with external customers
    • Foster good communication between the customer and the Maxion Wheels team
    • Ensure that commercial issues are addressed and accounted
    • Support team and address customer requirements
    • Effectively manage being an advocate of the customer when appropriate, and the plants when appropriate


  • Contribute to Business Unit sales and marketing strategy
    • Collect, analyze, and share market intelligence
    • Participate in the strategy development team with feedback from assigned accounts and other market information


  • Project Coordination
    • Responsible for organizing, coordinating & executing engineering projects & design reviews
    • Helps define project assumptions, boundary conditions & design requirements
    • Provides design objectives & guidance for developing project documentation
    • Works with engineering, sales & customers to identify need & marketability of new products and needed modifications to current products 
    • Assists in the development of marketing & sales materials
    • Status reporting to higher classifications as required    


  • Engineering Analysis 
    • Possesses knowledge in design of related products, processes & materials
    • Identifies special product characteristics
    • Utilizes analytical engineering tools
    • Utilizes outside vendors to supplement analysis
    • Reviews new/quoted business for design & manufacturing feasibility


  • Design Validation
  • Coordinates validation testing and creates test requests & engineering reports
  • Ensures compliance with FMVSS & industry guidelines & regulations
  • Develops benchmarking strategies
  • Signs off on & releases drawings


  • Organization & Technology Development
  • Maintains expertise in field
  • Supports industry by participation in professional organizations
  • Keeps current with new technology, market awareness & emerging trends
  • Evaluates new analysis tools & evaluation methods for new products & processes
  • Provides guidance & mentors professional development of  lower classifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • 5 years operational experience – Business, Engineering, etc.
  • Key Account Management—Commercial Vehicle Trailer required, Commercial Vehicle Truck OEM’s

The person in this environment works at a fast pace with minimum supervision.  The requirements of the business may cause frequent interruptions and changing priorities.  Up to 50% travel may be required. 



Normal office environment with no undue exposure to noise, odors, dust, drafts, etc. The job also works in plant conditions with frequent exposure (10-20%) to noise, odors, dust, drafts, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, hazardous substances, etc.  Overnight travel is required.
